GNU/GPL contents: biannual analysis

Results of reliability for our plugins

After more than six months since we started in September 2010 with our policy of sharing contents under the GNU/GPL, we have already passed the 3,000 downloads. We can be satisfied with nearly 3,200 instances downloaded of Nagios plugins, and , only, 5 bugs reported so far. Based on these data we obtain reliable results for our plugins, of 99.8%.

We share our developments under the GNU/GPL to be consistent with our vision. The exceptional level of the user community allows us to test the product in a very heterogeneous testing ground and incorporating new features based on their suggestions. Together, they act as collaborators and as impartial certification entity.

In turn, the release of contents brings other advantages. One of the most important is to examine what issues most interest to the community based on the number of downloads. Thus we can focus our efforts on those plugins, or categories of plugins, trend-setting and therefore may be more useful. This is the case of plugins to UNIXlike systems, with more than 1000 downloads, and plugins for UPS devices, with nearly 700 instances downloaded.

We thank these results to all our contributors and especially to Troels Arvin, José Renato and Marcia Gross that both with their bugs reports and with their suggestions and even corrections help every day we are more proud of the work carried out so altruistic. In this line we invite you to work together with your comments and suggestions, as always, will be as well received as well regarded.
